Aaron Blevinsky hesitated when he saw Klaus Panzer’s name on his phone screen. “Yes, sir.”

“What is the status on the elimination of Diegert?”

“I cannot report success at this time, sir, but Strakov’s team knows his location and they are assaulting the site as we speak.”

“Very well, keep me apprised of developments.”

“Yes, sir.”

When Panzer concluded the call, Dean Kellerman remarked, “We do seem to be in a bit of a pickle.”

“Yes, but we must move forward. Any retraction at this point would be a waste.”

“Is Diegert really so important? We’ve already initiated the media campaign against him. He did it! What could he say that anyone would believe?”

“Ah—you see . . . that’s just it. He can’t get everyone to believe him, but he might get someone to, and that could do us harm.”

“As a dead man, the story is ours to tell.”

“Precisely,” punctuated Panzer, “We must be the ones to capture and kill him.”
